Here's what to know about the match: Match facts — England is playing its fourth quarterfinal game at a major tournament under England manager Gareth Southgate and won two of the previous three. Southgate's cautious tactics have brought hefty criticism from England fans, some of whom threw plastic cups at him in the group stage. — Jude Bellingham's last-minute overhead kick to send England's last-16 game with Slovakia to extra time was one of the most dramatic moments of Euro 2024 so far. Defender John Stones said Thursday that surviving that brush with elimination gave the team new confidence.

Taiwan on alert over 'waves' of missile tests in north China
Taiwan's defence ministry said on Saturday it was monitoring «waves» of missile tests taking place in China's far northern region of Inner Mongolia and that its air defence forces were on alert. Democratically governed Taiwan, which China views as its own territory, keeps a close watch on all Chinese military activities given Beijing's regular activities around the island, but only rarely releases details of what it sees taking place inside China. The ministry said that from 4 a.m. (2000 GMT on Friday) it had detected «multiple waves of test launches» by China's Rocket Force in an area of Inner Mongolia 2,000 km (1,200 miles) from Taiwan.

Motown, slowtown: Luxury car sales slow in line with broader slowdown in Indian auto market
car sales slowed in the first half of the year with combined sales at Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi growing 5.5% from a year earlier to 18,843 units, according to data from companies. This compares with a 23% on-year increase in the first half of 2023 at 17,869 units. Carmakers attributed the sluggish performance to a broader slowdown in the Indian car market, besides intense heat waves this summer, and an extended general election. Some experts also cited a shift in spending by the wealthy to experiences such as bespoke holiday itineraries. Luxury automakers are hoping to post a recovery in the second half, which will feature the festive season starting in September with Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam, and peaking with Dussehra and Diwali in October-November. This period is the most crucial for consumer durables like cars, accounting for 30-35% of annual sales.
