markets UPS Strategy wellness Cycling inclusion Fund Manager Talk | Nimesh Chandan spots 2 behavioral biases driving investor decisions in a falling market
Nimesh Chandan, CIO of Bajaj Finserv AMC, identifies two key behavioral biases — fear and loss aversion — driving investor decisions in the current market downturn. As portfolios decline 30-40% from their peaks, many investors panic, close their SIPs, or hesitate to deploy fresh capital despite attractive long-term opportunities. Chandan explains how these emotions lead to irrational decision-making and what investors can do to navigate volatility with a disciplined approach. Edited excerpts from a chat: The year 2025 is clearly turning out to be nightmarish for retail investors, particularly those heavily invested in smaller stocks. As high PE stocks have moderated quite a bit, do you see more pain ahead or gradual recovery as we step into FY26? In the history of financial markets, one learns that though events may be unique, behavioural patterns are the same. Up to September last year, investors were experiencing a strong rally leading to quick gains in the equity markets. Especially, the mid cap and the small cap categories were seeing a strong up move. In many stocks of these categories, valuations were at or near all-time highs. Typically, such moves also set the ground for a correction. When there is even a small downgrade or disappointment, stocks fall sharply. Now, in many sectors, the valuations are back to reasonable levels. However, even in the current market, risk-reward is more favorable in large caps. Selective areas of mid cap and small cap stocks are now looking attractive.

«Base case scenario getting worked out that the first half of the next financial year, earnings should start bottoming out, reflecting in probably the spread narrowing as well,» says Mayuresh Joshi, Head Equity, Marketsmith India. The question which we are debating, deliberating, and discussing is that do we have a durable trading bottom in place for the market now and it will take a lot of global bad news or local events to break that recent low. Mayuresh Joshi: We have been analysing a lot of aspects, including how the gap between the bond yields and the earnings yields have probably panned out over the last 10 to 15 years and in terms of this narrowing of spreads, we are below the long term averages.

markets UPS FIVE wellness Trade travelers Which sector will lead the next market rally? Jyotivardhan Jaipuria answers
Jyotivardhan Jaipuria, Founder & MD, Valentis Advisors, says after the correction, they are getting a little more constructive on the market. He is no longer worried about high valuations of the Indian market because relatively, the valuations are looking okay. Now, we trade at around 65% premium to emerging market PEs, which is more or less in line with global averages and way below what it was six months back. As for earning growth, the March quarter will likely be closer to 8% and next year it may be 11-12%. Once earnings growth picks up, the market will feel relatively better and start moving up. Jaipuria also says he likes banks, pharma and in the consumption space the three picks are white goods, travel and probably auto ancillaries. Do you think banks will lead this rally going ahead and that is the sector to be in at this point in time because we have a lot of them saying yes, because the valuations are now reasonable, it is attractive, and banks is where one should be. Jyotivardhan Jaipuria: We also like banks and unfortunately, we are with the consensus here. The reason we like banks is valuations. If we do 10-year valuations for all sectors, banks are the only sector where valuations currently are below the 10-year valuations. So, to that extent, there is a lot of margin of comfort there because at low valuations, you need fundamentals to improve a bit, and then you can get decent share price performances, so that is why we like the banks.

markets UPS Citi Metro wellness Cycling stage Prashant Thakur predicts strong demand for both redevelopment and greenfield projects
«If you look at Mumbai, the entire city was dug up a couple of years back and we are seeing that all these infrastructure projects that started are seeing day of the light and that is why we are seeing a flurry of activity in the peripheral areas, where a huge amount of development are coming up, thanks to the connectivity,» says Prashant Thakur, Anarock Group. Let me firstly ask about Mumbai because that particular market and the region has seen a lot of redevelopment activity, especially if you talk about prime areas like Worli. And not just Worli, let us talk about the suburbs as well, there is constant redevelopment day in and day out. If you could help us understand what is exactly driving this transformation, how do you see this impacting the overall real estate trends in the city? Prashant Thakur: First of all, if you talk about Mumbai, or let us say MMR as a whole, it accounts for 45% to almost 48% of value of real estate sold across the top seven cities in the country. So, undoubtedly, it is kind of powerhouse when it comes to residential sales. And there are several factors apart from being the financial capital of India, the huge amount of job opportunity it generates, it has also seen a huge amount of infrastructure upgrade.

markets UPS Target FIVE wellness recommendations 2 top stock recommendations from Aditya Arora
«So, the bias is positive and the breakout on the index will happen above 22,750 on Nifty on the upside and on the downside the texture could deteriorate only if we break 22,100,» says Aditya Arora, Adlytick. Nifty has been sideways for the last five to six consecutive sessions. When are we going to really pick up a trend? Aditya Arora: The market is consolidating with positive bias. Although market is consolidating in a tight range of 22,200 to 22,700, but a lot of midcaps and smallcaps are doing well. markets UPS Election Research wellness Universities It is not as gloomy for EMs but most flows are going to Europe now: Cameron Brandt
Cameron Brandt, Director of Research, EPFR Global, says it is now the turn of US equity funds to see something of a reversion to the mean. The free pass they got in the immediate aftermath of Donald Trump's election, if not revoked, is certainly being scrutinised. The past 10 days have not been terrible for emerging markets. There has been a pickup of flows into dedicated Europe and Japan equity funds. In India, valuations are starting to get to levels where people will be comfortable again and maybe even see an upside. The last time we spoke, there was only bad news for emerging markets like India. When do you think there will be only good news for emerging markets like India? Cameron Brandt: It is certainly not quite as gloomy for emerging markets as when we last talked. But the emerging markets that are doing best at the moment are the ones perceived as being geared to Europe. We have had a fairly bumpy period, but it is Europe that has been catching the attention and flows. That said, the reallocation away from emerging markets definitely seems to be slowing. It has not stopped, but there are certainly points of life in the general universe and it is now the turn of US equity funds to see something of a reversion to the mean.

markets IPO Digital Manufacturing Analysis wellness evacuation Nifty may see double-digit gains by 2026: Manish Sonthalia
«Nifty 50 is broadly going to traverse something like 10% to 12% EPS growth. So, from here, 22,000 to expect 24,500 to 25,000 between December 25 and March 26 is certainly not out of place. So, from that point of view, a 10% to 12% Nifty gain is purely doable,» says Manish Sonthalia, Emkay Investment Managers. So, tell us a sum and summary. With so much of analysis you have done, tell us three stocks to buy. We will keep it very simple. You give me three stocks, one question and then I will let you go to a meeting. Manish Sonthalia: So, stock recommendations not doable because of regulations but look we have priced in most of the negative, that is one and whatever micro details you need to know about India is already known in public domain. There is nothing new to analyse just yet as things stand. We do not know all the information regarding tariffs, etc.

Provident Man Remark wellness President Podcasts International Modi speaking Trump's language: Congress on PM's remarks on global organisations
Congress on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks in a podcast on the relevance of global organisations, claiming that the PM is clearly going out of his way to keep US President Donald Trump in good humour and «repeating his good friend's chant». In his interaction with American podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman, Modi emphasised the need for synchronisation and collaboration to propel global initiatives forward. He also addressed the relevance of global organisations like the United Nations, noting that their inability to evolve with the times has sparked a global debate on their relevance. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, «Mr. Modi clearly is going out of his way to keep Mr. Trump in good humour.» «He says international organisations, from which India has benefited immensely, have become irrelevant. »This is the US President's language. In fact, it is Mr. Trump who is doing his best to make them irrelevant and now Mr. Modi is repeating 'his good friend's' chant," Ramesh claimed.

COST UPS Gap Research wellness trends social Gen Z is taking ‘micro-retirement.’ Don’t laugh.
Gen Z has been in the workforce just long enough to want out. Well, at least temporarily. The concept of a micro-retirement has started to trend (again) on social media, which makes it seem as if an entire generation of twenty-somethings wants to take an adult gap year. Is this a rebranding of the more well-known sabbatical? Yes, with a couple of noteworthy caveats: Micro-retirement isn’t employer-granted — say goodbye to pay while you’re away or a guaranteed job upon return — and it’s meant to be more of a routine lifestyle choice to combat burnout and pursue personal passions. But it’s not Gen Z that should be fixating on micro-retirement; it’s companies.

markets UPS Aviat wellness Trade show rights NBFCs and Private Banks set to outperform, stay invested: Rahul Shah
«If you look at the biggest gainer, the crude prices which has cooled off and inflation below sub-4, RBI's interventions what we have seen, so all these things are just getting a base for our markets to move up and as I said, it will be a stock pickers and the stock specific rather than the entire market selling into it,» says Rahul Shah, MOFSL. What is it that your strategy is in this market? Time to buy yet? Rahul Shah: What we have seen in last five-six months after a steep correction, because stock-wise there is a lot of correction other than the indices.
