US market seems more affected by tariff scenario; Fed likely to maintain status quo: Ed Yardeni
Ed Yardeni of Yardeni Research, says the US stock market has weakened since the middle of February as the Magnificent Seven have declined by about 15% since the beginning of the year. But other stock markets have actually done well. Germany, China. India seems to be stabilising. Money already has been going global. It has left the United States and that may continue to be the case. It is as though the stock markets are saying that the tariff situation is going to be worse for the US than for the rest of the world. But the markets are also saying that the US has been expensive What is your expectation from the Fed this time, a status quo? Ed Yardeni: Status quo. Nothing different from everybody else. The Fed has communicated that they are in no hurry to ease. I view that as a fundamentally dovish stance because the alternative would have been to say there is no hurry to do anything. In which case, the message would be rates could be here for a long time, not going up, not going down. But they have been saying over and over again that they are in no hurry to ease, so they are clearly thinking about lowering interest rates and depending on how this tariff turmoil turns out there may be a weak enough economy out there that they will ease. The problem is they may also get some inflation out of tariffs. So, they could really be boxed in and really be in no hurry to do anything for a while.

Time to buy the value? Deven Choksey on where to buy the dips
Deven Choksey, MD, DRChoksey FinServ, says whenever the market has made a panic bottom in the past, in the following 3 months to 9 months or 12 months, some of the stocks would give a very smart recovery as high as 70-80% and as low as 25% to 30% in most of the cases. Should that particular trade hold this time around, then from the 21,800, 21,900 kind of a level which Nifty saw a few days back, market should have a recovery back to 24,200, 24,800 kind of levels. Choksey says it is time to buy the value. Some of the NBFCs, HFCs, manufacturers supplying to renewable companies and power utilities or companies in engineering R&D, have some brilliant propositions in the corrective downside. We have had an over 1,000-point recovery on Sensex from the lows. How believable and sustainable is it looking to you? Deven Choksey: The question that should be asked is why should it sustain? The most important part, technically, the market has been in an oversold situation for a long period of time and that oversold situation was continuing largely because of the constant selling by the FPIs. Now, the selling of the FPI has muted, it has come down to a greater extent, largely also because of the fact that the currency is also not depreciating.

Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore return: Which astronauts have spent the longest time in space?
Astronauts Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore and Sunita Williams are all set to return to Earth after being stranded for 286 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Technical issues with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft led to the duo staying longer at the ISS than planned. The SpaceX Dragon capsule, which is bringing the astronauts back, is set to land at 5:57 pm ET off the coast of Florida, if the weather conditions are amenable. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are not the only astronauts to have completed months aboard the ISS. The record for spending the maximum number of days goes to another astronaut.

US industrial output rises on jump in vehicle production
Federal Reserve said in a statement. This was significantly above market expectations for a 0.2 percent rise, according to Briefing.com. President Donald Trump has embarked on a trade war since taking office, hitting top US trading partners like Canada, Mexico, and China, in a move that has unsettled the financial markets. Trade uncertainty has lingered for months, but it seems that tariff-sensitive sectors like autos have looked to produce more goods while they still face lower trade barriers. There was a steep rise in manufacturing output, which was «boosted by a jump of 8.5 percent in the index for motor vehicles and parts,» the Fed said.

Bill Gates warns White House he can't fill shortfalls in US global health funding
Gates, the billionaire Microsoft co-founder turned global health philanthropist, met with the National Security Council as well as Republican and Democratic lawmakers in recent weeks to press that case, the sources said. Soon after his January 20 inauguration, President Donald Trump moved to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development, cutting more than 80% of contracts and freezing billions of dollars for everything from emergency food assistance to malaria prevention. The Trump administration, led by the State Department, is reviewing what kinds of foreign aid will remain under its «America First» policy, with a list of around 30 global health projects for consideration, one of the sources said. «Bill was recently in Washington D.C. meeting with decision makers to discuss the life-saving impact of U.S. international assistance and the need for a strategic plan to protect the world's most vulnerable while safeguarding America's health and security,» said a spokesperson for the Gates Foundation, his charitable organization.

Banking sector offers buying opportunity amid FPI sell-off: Nilesh Shah
«Gold looks on a better footing. It has delivered great return like equity, but we will have to realise whether we will be able to liquidate gold or not,» says Nilesh Shah, MD, Kotak AMC. Gold and Nifty have given similar returns. I mean, why are we doing so much of analysis every day? So much of volatility. We look at macro, we look at rupee, we look at earnings, we look at PE. Life is so simple. Just buy gold, forget it. Nilesh Shah: So, we will have to figure out when Indians decide to sell gold, who will buy. Today, gold prices are up because we are one of the largest buyer. Fortunately, for India, central banks of the world have become like our housewives.

Santosh Rao expects one Fed rate cut this year; says ultimately FIIs will return to India
Santosh Rao, Head of Research/Partner, Manhattan Venture Partners, says foreign funds flows will ultimately come into India because India is the fastest growing economy in the world but right now, there is much better risk-reward outside India. So, right now, money is getting scattered around other places. But ultimately, it will come back to India. Rao also says that the Fed will probably have one cut this year and more next year when the US economy is expected to slow down. They won’t cut rates now because the prices are still high and there is a greater threat of inflation. US retail sales rose less than forecast in February, and the previous month was revised down to mark the biggest drop since July 2021. Anxiety is building among US consumers about the likely impact from US tariffs on the economy and their pocketbooks. China on the other hand, has announced a «Special Action Plan to Boost Consumption» in a bid to prop up domestic consumption in the world's second largest economy. How do you see these things impacting US consumers? Santosh Rao: Overall, right now, the US consumer is getting cautious. The underlying data right now is kind of soft, but people are really worried about the future, what is coming down the pike? The inflation expectations are high and that kind of feeds into the narrative and that one thing leads to another, so the prices keep going up. So, the big inflation, the resurgence of inflation is a big issue. So, you want to clamp that down. So, let us see.
