Moti Mahal and Daryaganj's tussle over Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani throws up lessons, and aroma
Indian cuisine around the world are now embroiled in a dispute that may well modify the old saw that links the stomach to the heart, and to add brain, intellect and IP to the mix. Restaurant chains Moti Mahal and Daryaganj each claim to be the original inventor of both butter chicken and dal makhani. While Moti Mahal is not exactly claiming to exercise IP rights over these two dishes, and thereby bar others from cooking up the dish without a licence from them, they want Daryaganj to know its place and stop claiming they invented the dishes. Moti Mahal has sought an injunction against Daryaganj using the tag line, 'Inventors of Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani'.

The student, a Syrian national, was arrested early on Monday in the southern town of Montellano near Seville, and has been charged with belonging to a terrorist organisation and possessing explosives. Jose Luis de Castro, the judge in charge of the court's section for minors, said in his order that "these felonies of enormous gravity" justified the pre-trial detention.

The reliability of economic forecasts has been questioned again
Every economic crisis tends to also become a crisis in economics—as events throw an unsparing light on the gaps in our knowledge of how an economy works. It is not different this time round either. Christine Lagarde, a former managing director of the International Monetary Fund who is now president of the European Central Bank, did not pull any punches in a speech she delivered at the annual World Economic Forum jamboree at Davos this month.
