Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday slammed the Congress for accusing the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of corruption. We saw scams in coal allotment, Commonwealth Games, Augusta helicopter purchase etc. Congress rule was about cut, commission and corruption,» Shinde told reporters at Nagpur airport. Fitch Ratings on Friday revised its outlook on domestic steel major Tata Steel to negative on account of uncertainty surrounding the turnaround of the company's operations in the UK. However, the expected robust growth in Tata Steel's India operations and likely earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) profits at Dutch operations in FY25, may offset any losses at UK operations, Fitch Ratings said in a report. «Fitch Ratings has revised the Outlook on India-based Tata Steel Limited's (TSL) Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to Negative, from Stable, and affirmed the IDR at 'BBB-'. »We have also affirmed the rating on the USD 1 billion notes due July 2024 issued by TSL's subsidiary ABJA Investment Co. Pte. Ltd. and guaranteed by TSL, at 'BBB-'," the statement said, adding that the negative outlook reflects uncertainty surrounding turnaround of the UK operations.

Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday claimed that the Centre bypassed the Law Commission in enacting the three new criminal laws that came into effect from July 1. The Law Commission, comprising of retired judges, legal experts, professors, and permanent legal staff, would normally hold consultations with bar council members, and advocate associations and prepare a draft to be presented in the Parliament, he said. But the Law Commission was bypassed and five or six «part-timers» were appointed for a panel, he said on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, replacing the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. «The laws were not referred to the Law Commission nor was it consulted. This is wrong,» Chidambaram said while speaking at a protest organised here by the DMK advocate wing against the new laws.

The speaker had also dismissed the disqualification petitions of the Thackeray faction against CM Shinde and his supporting MLAs. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoh Misra was urged by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for UBT leader Sunil Prabhu, that the plea needed to be listed for hearing as even the term of the assembly is nearing its end. «I will see,» the CJI said and asked the senior lawyer to circulate an e-mail to this effect.

The mutual recognition agreement (MRA) will ease the export of organic products by avoiding dual certifications, thereby reducing compliance cost, simplifying compliance requirements by adhering to only one regulation and enhancing trade opportunities in the organic sector. It said the pact will pave the way for export of major Indian organic products such as rice, processed food, green/black and herbal tea, medicinal plant products to Taiwan. The implementing agencies for the MRA are India's Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Taiwan's Agriculture and Food Agency.

Congress on Thursday said setting up an oil refinery and petrochemical complex in Andhra Pradesh was originally a commitment made by the Manmohan Singh government in the thirteenth schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. Taking note of an ET report about the Centre acceding to Andhra Pradesh chief minister and key NDA ally N Chandrababu Naidu's demands on these projects, the Congress said that as per the 2014 Act, these projects were to be implemented within 10 years and that the Modi regime, having failing to do so, had «only initiated the feasibility study now». It also said that with the BJP no longer in majority in Parliament, rapid implementation of the Act could now be expected. «An oil refinery and petrochemical complex in Andhra Pradesh was originally a commitment made by Dr Manmohan Singh's government in the Thirteenth Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014,» Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X, attaching a copy of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Act.
