Progressive CEO WhatsApp reports Royal Enfield sales dip 5% in June
Royal Enfield on Tuesday said it has reported a 5 per cent decline in total sales at 73,141 units in June as against 77,109 units sold in the same month a year ago. Dometic sales were at 66,117 units last month as against 67,495 units in the year-ago period, down 2 per cent, Royal Enfield said in a statement. Exports declined 27 per cent to 7,024 units last month as compared to 9,614 units in June 2023, it added. «We remain steadfast on our long-term plans and are making considerable progress towards the same. This year will be an exciting one for Royal Enfield, as we have several new launches planned that will significantly strengthen our product portfolio,» Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan said.

The company, which is into renewable energy sources, will now seek alternative bank borrowing instead, Fitch Ratings said, while withdrawing the 'BB' rating assigned to the proposed bond. Initially, the proposed notes, rated 'BB' by Fitch and 'Ba2' by Moody's, were expected to price a 3.5-year bond under 7%. However, earlier this year, Greenko Mauritius deferred the bond due to interest rate volatility. The $425-million bridge loan remains outstanding and is due by September 30, 2024.

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and exhorted the troops to remain steadfast to meet all security challenges, officials said. This was his first visit to the Jammu region after taking charge as the 30th chief of the Indian Army on June 30 and it assumes significance in view of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and massive anti-terror operations underway, especially in the hilly districts. The Army chief reached Jammu in the morning and flew to the border district of Poonch to review the security situation and operational preparedness along the LoC, the officials said, adding he was accompanied by General Officer Commanding-in-chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Jammu-based White Knight Corps Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva. Gen Dwivedi also chaired a high-level meeting of Army and police officers on his return from Poonch at the Army headquarters in Nagrota. Director General of J&K Police R R Swain, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Vijay Kumar and ADGP, Jammu zone, Anand Jain attended the meeting.

Punjab police registered the first case under the newly-introduced «organised crime» sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023 which attracts maximum punishment of life imprisonment. The interstate organised crime syndicate was booked under Section 111 of BNS, 2023 and the kingpin of the gang and four members were arrested from a flat in Mohali's Kharar, Punjab Police said on Monday. Under Section 111 of BNS, «If such offence has resulted in the death of any person, be punishable with death or imprisonment for life without the benefit of parole and shall also be liable to fine which shall not be less than Rs 10 lakh.» According to the Punjab police, the syndicate kingpin was identified as Jai Sharma alias Sukha Pistol Ambarsarya of Prem Nagar in Amritsar. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the four members are Nikhil Sharma alias Lala of Sandhu Colony in Amritsar, Moni of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar, and Arpit Thakur and Karan Sharma of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh. Sukha Pistol has seven cases pertaining to the Arms Act, snatching and theft registered against him, Yadav said. Police seized two .32 bore pistols, three magazines and eight live rounds from them.

Calcutta High Court will hear on Monday an application for interim order by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose in a defamation suit filed by him against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and some other TMC leaders over alleged comments made by her. Justice Krishna Rao on Wednesday granted leave for the defamation plaint to be registered before his court. He directed that Bose's application for an interim order, for a direction upon Banerjee and the others not to make any further comment on the issue under contention, will be taken up for hearing on Monday. Justice Rao also directed Bose's lawyer to serve copies of the application to the defendants in the suit in the meantime.

The collision was so severe that the 45-year-old woman was thrown onto the car's bonnet. Rather than stopping, the driver continued for approximately 100 metres before fleeing the scene.
