Coastal parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu warned of sea swells
Kerala and Tamil Nadu are likely to experience the 'kallakkadal' phenomenon — the sudden swell of the seas causing rough waves — and high tides till 11.30 pm on Monday, according to the weather agency. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) on Sunday sounded an alert to fishermen and coastal residents in the area about the possible sea surge. INCOIS, the central agency that issues weather warnings for fishermen in the country, advised people to safely moor their fishing vessels in the harbour. It advised coastal people, living in accident-prone areas, to relocate to safer places in view of possible danger.

REC raises 31.96 billion Japanese yen through 5-year green loan
Power sector financier REC Limited has raised 31.96 billion Japanese yen through a 5-year green loan, with the transaction being conducted from Deutsche Bank’s Gift City branch. The loan, which is equivalent to $200 million, will be used to finance eligible green projects in India, REC said in a statement. “This successful transaction is in line with REC’s commitment to enhance its green energy financing and sustainable projects capabilities as well as the global community’s support for sustainable development projects in India,” said Vivek Kumar Dewangan, CMD, REC.

Rijiju was referring to a notice submitted in Lok Sabha by BJP member Bansuri Swaraj urging the Speaker to take cognisance of her notice against certain inaccuracies in Gandhi's speech on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address. «When the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha kept on lying on many things, including facts and figures, a notice was put to the Speaker and we have requested the Speaker to take appropriate action. We are waiting for the action,» Rijiju said in response to questions on the issue. The minister said rules apply equally to everyone as no member is above the Chair in the House.

Landslides snap surface communication in 7 Arunachal districts
Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, officials said. The districts affected by landslides are Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang, West Siang, Shi Yomi, Leparada and Upper Subansiri. A portion of the NH-13 along the Pasighat-Pangin-Aalo road has blocked following a landslide on Thursday morning. A huge boulder has completely blocked the road in between Lokpeng and Pangin tri-junction in Siang district, PWD Highways assistant engineer Gemar Padu said. The road is being cleared by engaging men and machinery for light motor vehicles to pass through, he said.

Shapoorji Pallonji Group has mandated Deutsche Bank and DAM Capital to raise Rs 3,000 crore at mid-teen interest rates to refinance high-cost debt from private credit funds Ares SSG Capital and Farallon. The debt is due for repayment next year. «Deutsche Bank and DAM Capital have been mandated to raise Rs 3,000 crore by Shapoorji Pallonji Group to arrange debt at mid-teen rates for refinancing existing liabilities,» a source familiar with the matter said. «The fundraise will reduce the interest burden from the current 18-22% rate, as the company is looking to lower the overall cost of capital.» The proceeds from this issuance will be used to refinance upcoming maturities and partially prepay Ares and Farallon. These bonds, issued in 2021 with a three-and-a-half-year tenor, are set to mature soon. The group has approached several large funds and global banks to gauge interest, two sources indicated.

Maruti Suzuki sales rise 12 pc to 1,79,228 units in June
Maruti Suzuki India on Monday reported a 12 per cent increase in total wholesales to 1,79,228 units in June. The company had dispatched 1,59,418 units to its dealers in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement. The total domestic passenger vehicle sales were 1,37,160 units last month compared to 1,33,027 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 3 per cent, it added. Sales of mini-segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, declined to 9,395 units from 14,054 units in June 2023.

Former TN Minister Senthil Balaji constantly filing petitions to stall trial: ED
Enforcement Directorate on Monday informed a sessions court here that with an ulterior motive to stall the trial proceedings in a money laundering case, former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji was constantly filing petitions and thereby causing a delay in commencement of trial. Karthik Dasari, Deputy Director, Chennai Zonal Office, Directorate of Enforcement, stated this in his counter affidavit filed before Principal Sessions Judge S Alli, in response to the petitions filed by Balaji. In a petition, Balaji sought to defer the present proceedings and adjourn the case to a later date. In another two petitions, he sought to furnish the missing documents in «Relied Upon Document Nos-16 and 17»-copies of counterfoil challans relating to his account which were collected by the ED in its investigation, to him. In his counter affidavit, Dasari submitted that the petitioner/accused had already filed a petition to defer the trial proceedings and this court had dismissed the same. Challenging this order, the petitioner had preferred an appeal and it was pending before the Madras high court.
