Ethanol distilleries in the country are faced with high and rising stock of the biofuel amid a demand-supply imbalance that, they allege, is because state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) are not buying sufficient quantities. Two executives at OMCs, however, said they are buying as much ethanol as is required to meet the target of blending 15% ethanol in petrol. «The stock at ethanol producers is rising as OMCs are unable to lift enough quantity,» said an ethanol industry executive who didn't want to be identified. «This could be due to limited storage capacity at OMCs' depots,» the person added. State-run oil marketing companies Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Petroleum purchase ethanol from diverse producers to blend it with petrol at their depots before supplying the fuel to pumps. These companies did not respond to ET's request for comment until press time Sunday.

BJP on Sunday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should not indulge in theatrics and instead break his «silence» on the alleged assault on his party MP Swati Maliwal at the CM residence by his aide Bibhav Kumar. The reaction came after Kejriwal and his party workers and leaders held a massive protest near the BJP headquarters against Kumar's arrest in connection with the case. «Kejriwal should break his silence instead of his dramebazi and answer specific questions,» BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a post on X. Bank of Maharashtra recorded the highest growth rate last fiscal in terms of total business and deposit mobilisation among public sector lenders at a time when most banks are facing difficulty in achieving double-digit growth. The Pune-headquartered lender has registered a 15.94 per cent rise in the total business (domestic) in FY24, followed by the country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) with 13.12 per cent growth, according to published financial numbers of the public sector banks (PSBs). However, SBI's total business (deposit and advances) was about 16.7 times higher at Rs 79,52,784 crore compared to Rs 4,74,411 crore of Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) in absolute terms. Similarly, BoM continued to maintain its top spot in terms of growth in deposit mobilisation, with a 15.66 per cent rise in FY24. It was followed by SBI (11.07 per cent), Bank of India (11.05 per cent) and Canara Bank (10.98 per cent).

She said if AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who is in jail in connection with the Delhi excise police case, had been here «maybe things wouldn't have been so bad for me!» Maliwal has alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar assaulted her on May 13 when she went to the CM's residence to meet him. Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, has been sent to five days in police custody following allegations of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. The Delhi Police arrested Kumar on Saturday, and his anticipatory bail plea was subsequently declared “infructuous” by a Delhi court. The police allege that Kumar, Kejriwal’s personal assistant, assaulted Maliwal at the CM's residence on the morning of May 13. Kumar was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal, who granted the police’s request for custody. The police, through their counsel, sought seven days of custody to question Kumar about the assault. They argued that Kumar did not provide his mobile phone password to the investigating agency and claimed that his phone had been formatted in Mumbai due to a malfunction. Police stated, “Before being formatted, the data of a mobile phone has to be cloned, and Kumar was required to be taken to Mumbai for retrieving the data.” They added that his presence was needed when his mobile phone is opened by an expert.
