Manipur police have rescued a CRPF personnel who was abducted by unknown miscreants from Shantipur village of Imphal West district. A case has been registered for further investigation, Manipur police have posted on X. A senior police official, who did not want to be named, told ET that the incident took place along the national highway when the CRPF personnel was going to his village. The person has been identified as Lensat Sitlhou, son of Ngulkhomang Sitlhou, of Keithelmanbi Military Colony. The abducted jawan was reportedly brutally assaulted by the abductors, the police official said.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said eastern India has potential to emerge as the country's growth engine with a decisive push to industrialisation, adding that a mineral-rich state like Jharkhand must get rid of rampant corruption to draw businesses. Pitching for a change in governance, the minister said Jharkhand has been reeling under rampant corruption, migration and lawlessness. Capital Small Finance Bank on Thursday reported Rs 28.2 crore net profit for the March quarter against Rs 24.3 crore in the year-ago period, riding on lower provisions and contingencies. The Jalandhar-headquartered bank however saw its operating profit dip to Rs 39.5 crore for the quarter against Rs 40.3 crore.
