National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG) between May 15 and 31, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman, Mamidala K Jagadesh, said on Sunday, adding that the datesheet for the examination will be announced after March 26. The UGC chairman addressed concerns about CUET-UG exam dates coinciding with Lok Sabha elections on May 20 and 25, saying the date sheet would be announced considering the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution. The NTA launched the CUET UG 2024 online application portal on February 27. Students who are appearing for the Class 12 board examinations can apply for the Common University Entrance Test 2024 for various undergraduate courses through the official online portal at exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG.

Shajahan Sheikh's brother Sheikh Alamgir and two others, arrested by the CBI for the assault on ED officers during a raid in Sandeshkhali on January 5, to five days' custody of the central agency, police said. Basirhat sub-divisional court sent Alamgir, Sirajul Molla and Mafijul Molla to five-day CBI custody, they said. The CBI on Saturday arrested Alamgir and the two others following a marathon questioning in connection with the attack. The agency suspects that these people were allegedly part of the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and instigated a crowd to target the team when they went to raid the premises of Sheikh.

District Election Officer, Bandipora, Shakeel ul Rehman, on Sunday directed all licensed arms holders to deposit their arms at the nearest police stations within seven days in view of the Lok Sabha elections. «The district magistrate in an order vide No. 35- DMB of 2024 dated: 17-03-2024 directed all the civilians and forces personnel (retired and serving) presently residing within the territorial jurisdiction of District Bandipora and who are in possession of arms and ammunition on a vaild arms licence shall deposit their arms and ammunition in the concerned police stations within a period of seven days from the date of issuance of the order.» an official spokesman said here. The spokesman said this measure is for preventive law and order action to ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the Lok Sabha elections. The district magistrate said that prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC had come into force with effect from March 16, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s Model Code of Conduct.
