National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG) between May 15 and 31, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman, Mamidala K Jagadesh, said on Sunday, adding that the datesheet for the examination will be announced after March 26. The UGC chairman addressed concerns about CUET-UG exam dates coinciding with Lok Sabha elections on May 20 and 25, saying the date sheet would be announced considering the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution. The NTA launched the CUET UG 2024 online application portal on February 27. Students who are appearing for the Class 12 board examinations can apply for the Common University Entrance Test 2024 for various undergraduate courses through the official online portal at exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG.

Shajahan Sheikh's brother Sheikh Alamgir and two others, arrested by the CBI for the assault on ED officers during a raid in Sandeshkhali on January 5, to five days' custody of the central agency, police said. Basirhat sub-divisional court sent Alamgir, Sirajul Molla and Mafijul Molla to five-day CBI custody, they said. The CBI on Saturday arrested Alamgir and the two others following a marathon questioning in connection with the attack. The agency suspects that these people were allegedly part of the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and instigated a crowd to target the team when they went to raid the premises of Sheikh.

Addressing a «meet the press» programme, Reddy slammed former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, alleging that his regime resembled "Nizam's rule." «They (electoral bonds) are nothing but 'quid pro quo' between those in power and contractors. Those in power are giving some contracts and they are giving back electoral bonds,» he said replying to a query. Chairing a Cabinet meeting here this morning, the PM also asked them to meet secretaries and other officials of their respective ministries to discuss how the agenda for the first 100 days and the next five years can be better implemented. Election Commission on Sunday advanced the date of the counting of votes for the Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim assembly polls to June 2 from June 4. The EC had announced earlier that the votes polled in the two assembly elections were to be counted on June 4 along with Lok Sabha poll votes. But as the term of the two assemblies are ending on June 2, the date has been advanced, the EC said. «There shall be no change in respect of schedule for Parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim,» it noted.

Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness its first major electoral battle since it was bifurcated and downgraded to the status of union territory months after the general elections in 2019. Jammu and Kashmir has a total of five Lok Sabha seats — three of which are currently with the National Conference and two with the BJP. The Union Territory has been under the central rule since the fall of PDP-BJP government in June 2018. The last assembly polls were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014.
