External commercial borrowings (ECB) contracted $1.1 billion sequentially in September, according to the latest Data released by the Reserve Bank of India. ECB registrations by Indian companies through both the automatic and the approval route combined amounted to $4.8 billion in September, down from $5.9 billion in August. Financial services companies accounted for a bulk of ECB registrations for the month with Power Finance Corporation alone seeking to raise $ 1.06 billion from the approval route. Other major borrowers in the automatic route included Shriram Finance which sought to raise $750 million and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company which sought to raise $250 million during the month. All the finance companies are tapping the ECB market for on-lending activities.

Religare Enterprises on Tuesday reported a 70 per cent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 68.49 crore for the second quarter ended September 2024. The financial services firm had a consolidated net profit of Rs 40.35 crore in the July-September quarter of 2023-24. Its total revenue stood at Rs 1,971 crore during the second quarter of the current fiscal year, up from Rs 1,586 crore in the corresponding period of the last year.

Industrial Production (IIP) in India witnessed an expansion of 3.1 per cent in September, as per data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Tuesday. The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) are released on 12th of every month (or previous working day if 12th is a holiday) with a six weeks lag and compiled with data received from source agencies, which in turn receive the data from the producing factories/ establishments. These Quick Estimates will undergo revision in subsequent releases as per the revision policy of IIP. (More to come)

B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan tendered an apology on Tuesday for referring to Union Minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy as «Kaalia», which the NDA had slammed as a «racist» slur. The Congress leader, however, repeatedly tried to clarify that he had earlier too addressed Kumaraswamy in such a way out of affection, when they shared a good bonding, and it's not the first time. The Housing and Waqf Minister was earlier with JD(S), and was considered to be a close associate of Kumaraswamy, who had earlier served as the Chief Minister, at the time. "....If I had called him using such a word for the first time, I would have apologised....out of affection, he used to call me 'Kulla' (dwarf), I used to call him Kariyanna (black brother). If still he or anyone is pained by it, I apologise. What is there in that?" Khan said.

Sunkind on Monday announced securing a solar energy project of 10.4 MW capacity from the government of Maharashtra. The project specifically includes a 10.4 MWp capacity ground-mounted solar PV technology grid interactive distributed agriculture feeder solarization system, to be implemented at Satmane, Nashik. Sunkind, as the EPC contractor, will provide wide-ranging installation services for the entire solar power system, with the final ownership to be transferred to Mahagenco.

direct tax collection grew 15.4 per cent year on year to Rs 12.1 lakh crore during the period April 1-November 10. Direct taxes include corporate and personal tax. It grew over 21 per cent to Rs 15 lakh crore on a gross basis during the period, a statement issued by the income tax department said. The government said it had issued tax refunds of Rs 2.9 lakh crore.
