'Kabaddi League proves viability of non-cricket tournaments'
Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), which has completed 10 years and is gearing up for its 11th season, has helped create confidence among investors about the viability of non-cricket sporting leagues, said a senior executive. «When a league like PKL goes into its season 11, we are also helping to create some market confidence that non-cricket sports leagues and the business of sport can grow,» said Anupam Goswami, league commissioner, PKL. Many non-cricket sporting leagues were launched on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but many of them — such as the Indian Tennis Premier League, Premier Badminton League and Pro Wrestling League — are either dormant or have shut down.

Delhi HC restores mandate of IOA ad hoc panel on plea seeking stay on WFI's functioning
WFI in its present form and prevent it from undertaking any activity as a national federation for the sport. While passing the interim order on the plea by celebrated wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyawart Kadian, Justice Sachin Datta said it was open to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) re-constituting the committee. The wrestlers, who were at the forefront of last year's protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the arrest of outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual harassment of seven women grapplers, had moved the high court earlier this year for setting aside and declaring as illegal the elections held to elect the office bearers of the federation held in December. Sanjay Singh, a Brij Bhushan loyalist, was elected the new WFI chief in the polls held on December 21, 2023.

Are there any loopholes that could've worked in Vinesh Phogat's favour during CAS hearing? Here are details
Vinesh Phogat's fate who was disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympics gold medal match in the 50kg freestyle wrestling category is now in the hands of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) who will deliver its verdict on August 13. While the hearings are completed and only the verdict is left, there might be a crucial 'loophole' in the United World Wrestling (UWW) rulebook that could potentially benefit Phogat, according to media reports. According to current regulations, Phogat’s disqualification was due to her failing the weigh-in by a mere 100 grams. UWW rules state that no exceptions can be made for such violations, which seemingly rules out the possibility of awarding Phogat a silver medal. However, an intriguing loophole in the rulebook might offer Phogat a chance.
