Vinesh Phogat disqualification hearing: CAS defers decision until August 11

«The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, for the Sole Arbitrator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision. The reasoned order will be issued at a later date,» said IOA in a statement.
Phogat had filed an appeal on August 7 challenging the Olympics disqualification she faced for weighing more than 50 Kg by 100 grams, leading to the Olympics committee revoking her silver medal win.
The 29-year-old wrestler was virtually present for the hearing that concluded on Friday.
The French lawyers for Vinesh Phogat began the arguments which were followed by UWW and IOC's side. High-profile senior advocates Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania, who were representing the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) then shared their arguments and spoke for over an hour followed by another round of arguments with IOC's closing comments, said TOI quoting reports.
Each of the parties was accorded an opportunity to file its detailed legal submissions prior to the hearing and then present oral arguments.
CAS ad-hoc division that was led by President Michael Lenard from the US and set up, especially for dispute resolution during the Games, had accepted Vinesh's appeal against her ouster.
