Screen Daily has confirmed that filming has officially wrapped on the third installment of the cult-favourite series. The new film continues the legacy of its predecessors, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, with Boyle returning to direct, and Alex Garland back as screenwriter.

28 Years Later marks a notable evolution in the franchise, both in terms of its budget and its cast. The film, which commenced production in May 2024, boasts a substantial budget of approximately $60 million. This figure marks a considerable increase from the $8 million budget of 28 Days Later and the $15 million allocated to 28 Weeks Later, as per the Collider report.
Original star Cillian Murphy reprises his role in this sequel, continuing his portrayal of Jim, the protagonist from the 2002 film. 28 Days Later, which was both directed by Boyle and written by Garland, garnered acclaim with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 87%.
