A 'superstitious' Trump didn't want you to think he was joking about tariffs on US allies, including India
Donald Trump has set April 2 as the date for implementing reciprocal tariffs on a range of imports from several major trading partners.
The tariffs, he said, are a response to what he considers unfair trade practices by countries like Canada, Mexico, China, the European Union, and India.
This move is part of Trump’s broader agenda to reshape U.S. trade policies and create a more balanced global trading environment.
In his first address to a joint session of Congress since returning to the White House, Trump defended his decision, claiming that the current trade system has long been skewed against the United States.
«This system is not fair to the United States and never was,» Trump said. «Whatever they tariff us, we will tariff them. If they do non-monetary barriers to keep us out of their market, we will do the same.»
