Supreme Court against the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's ruling in the MLA disqualification case. Narwekar had earlier today ruled that Eknath Shinde is the leader of the Shiv Sena and rejected the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction's attempt to disqualify Shinde and other MLAs.
Uddhav Thackeray, who heads the UBT, slammed Narwekar's decision and said that the latter had disregarded the Supreme Court's last year decision. «This is a shameless decision, they have crushed the SC's earlier decision.
By today's ruling, they have shown that even the Supreme Court's decision would not be accepted. We are going to see whether a contempt petition can be filed. The SC has now to determine whether its existence is going to remain, they have to decide this case suo moto,» said Thackeray.
He questioned the decision of the Speaker saying that it was strange that none of the MLAs were disqualified.
He added, «The Speaker has gone into something that was not his domain by going into the party constitution. They should have stayed within the parameters laid down by the Supreme Court. Today's ruling has insulted the top court.»
Thackeray said the BJP and Shinde-led Sena's game plan was to take time out and hence he appealed to the SC to complete the upcoming hearing on the challenges to the EC ruling as well as the ruling of the assembly Speaker before the elections.
Meanwhile, NCP president Sharad Pawar said the people of the state would give a strong riposte to the Speaker's decision.
