American Primeval is a six-episode series set to premiere on January 9 on Netflix. The series tells a fictionalized story of the American West’s violent origins in 1857, focusing on the clashing cultures, religions and communities that fought over land control.
Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin lead the cast, with Kim Coates confirmed as a main character. Coates plays Brigham Young, a prominent leader of the Mormon Church who will do whatever is necessary to protect his followers. Other notable cast members include Dane DeHaan, Shea Whigham, Saura Lightfoot-Leon and Derek Hinkey.

First-look images feature Kim Coates as Brigham Young, a determined leader of the Mormon Church and head of the Nauvoo Legion, a private army protecting his people. Lucas Neff is introduced as Captain Dellinger, a weary U.S. Army officer. Dellinger, once an idealistic cadet, now struggles with his role in an increasingly violent territory.
