The residents of Kuath village in Drubeel Panchayat of Mughal Maidan block in Kishtwar district of Chenab Valley in J&K informed that the four victims were identified as Sajad Ahmad, Mehraj ud Din, Abdul Kabir and Mushtaq Ahmad, all of whom work as laborers and daily wagers.
“They were called to the RR army camp located at the nearby Chas area. Two of them were called in the morning of Wednesday (November 20) and two others were called to the camp a few hours later,” said a local.
As per the villagers, later in the evening of the same day they were informed by the army to take all four of them home. “When we saw them, all four were bruised and one of them was unable to walk properly. They said that they were assaulted and thrashed by the army men who seemed to be freshly deployed in the camp,” said another local. “We told the army there that they should not have done this and they accepted their wrong doing as well,” said a local.
The villagers along with the victims attempted to move towards the Kishwar town, which is around 35 kms from the spot, in a cavalcade but were intercepted on the way as the senior police officials, district administration and army officials reached the spot immediately. “SSP and senior army officials assured us that action will be taken against the culprits and adequate treatment and financial support will be provided to the victims,” said a local.
