Arizona resident in Mesa got more than he bargained for when he called a snake removal company to deal with what he believed were three lurking rattlesnakes in his garage. As it turned out, the situation was far more serious than initially thought, with a total of 20 snakes, comprising five adult western diamondback rattlers and 15 baby rattlesnakes, making themselves at home in the cluttered space. Adding to the unexpected twist, one of the adult rattlesnakes was pregnant.
Marissa Maki, a skilled snake wrangler, was called in to handle the situation.
Most of the rattlesnakes were found coiled around the base of a hot water heater in the homeowner's garage. Captured on video by Rattlesnake Solutions, Maki expressed her astonishment, saying, «That is a lot of snakes. I’m not going to lie.
This is crazy.»
Western diamondback rattlesnakes, known for their distinctive triangular-shaped heads, are commonly found throughout the Southwest. Despite having venom that is less potent than other rattlesnake species, they still demand careful handling.
Maki used tongs to pick up each snake before placing them in large plastic buckets for relocation to a suitable natural habitat in a nearby desert area. Company owner Bryan Hughes remarked, «This is our record for the most rattlesnakes caught in one call!»
The situation could have been even more alarming, as Hughes revealed that several shedded snake skins were discovered in the garage, suggesting that as many as 40 snakes may have taken up residence there at some point.
