New York Giants' running back Saquon Barkley has officially confirmed that he is dealing with a high ankle sprain. The injury occurred during the team's victory over the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday and was initially thought to be a regular sprain.
However, Barkley provided clarity on the nature of the injury before the Giants' Thursday night game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite the high ankle sprain diagnosis, Barkley reassured fans that the injury is not as severe as it could have been. This update comes after a source informed ESPN's Adam Schefter that Barkley was expected to miss approximately three weeks of action.
Barkley's absence from the Thursday night game was primarily due to the need to manage pain.
Giants' coach Brian Daboll stated earlier in the week that Barkley had been making significant progress in his recovery and was known for being a quick healer.
During his interview with Amazon, Barkley mentioned that the 11-day break between Thursday night's game and the Giants' Week 4 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on October 2nd would be beneficial for his recovery.
Barkley, a two-time Pro Bowler, made an impressive start to the 2023 season. In the first two games, he carried the ball 29 times, accumulating 114 rushing yards and scoring a touchdown.
Additionally, he contributed in the passing game with nine receptions for 41 yards and another touchdown.
Moreover, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk missed Thursday night's match against the New York Giants due to a shoulder injury. Aiyuk's availability had been uncertain leading up to the game.
