The Azerbaijan Airlines flight reportedly faced technical challenges before its crash. First reports indicated that the plane impacted birds, resulting in extensive damage. Nevertheless, images circulating through the internet show abnormal openings on the fuselage, which questioned the bird-strike explanation. Russian and Azerbaijani authorities, including President Ilham Aliyev, called for a proper investigation into the incident.
President Aliyev called the incident a «deep sorrow for the Azerbaijani nation» and stressed the need for the truth of the air crash to be found. A special commission has been established to examine all possible causes, including technical failures and external factors.
