Throughout her career, Gerwig has never directed a sequel, and she made it clear that she doesn’t intend to start now with the Barbie franchise. While she is open to exploring another project based on a major intellectual property (IP), Gerwig emphasized her desire to maintain creative freedom and avoid what she sees as an «obvious cash grab» sequel.
