Bharti Airtel’s consolidated net profit for the fiscal second quarter jumped 168% on-year on the back of strong average revenue per user (ARPU) growth and subscriber adds, although a Rs 318 crore exceptional loss caused it to miss estimates.
The nation’s second-largest telco posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,593 crore, which missed estimates as analysts were expecting a consolidated net profit of around Rs 4,311 crore in the September quarter.
The Sunil Mittal-led telco’s consolidated revenue rose 12% year-on-year to Rs 41,473 in the July-September period, driven by strong momentum in India and sustained currency growth in Africa, the company said.
The company’s India mobile revenue grew 16.9% on-year in the fiscal second quarter to Rs 31,561 crore backed by improved realisations in mobile segment and sustained momentum in Homes and Airtel Business.
The revenue growth was also helped by sequential growth in ARPU — a key performance metric — to Rs 233, from Rs 211 in the previous quarter on the back of tariff hikes, postpaid user additions and a pick-up in 2G to 4G/5G conversions.
