Speaking with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley from Kyiv, Johnson was discussing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war on the third anniversary of the invasion before suddenly departing mid-conversation.
Susanna Reid expressed surprise at Boris Johnson’s presence in Kyiv, highlighting its significance as world leaders prepared to discuss Ukraine’s future. When asked what he believed should happen next, Johnson dismissed any suggestion that Ukraine bore responsibility for the war, calling such claims “rubbish.”
He also hinted at an imminent minerals agreement between the US and Ukraine, suggesting it would reinforce America’s financial and strategic commitment to Ukraine. According to Johnson, the deal would ensure continued US financial support while securing Ukraine’s independence under Donald Trump’s leadership.
However, before providing further details, Johnson abruptly ended the interview. Richard Madeley quickly attempted to extend the conversation, asking how world leaders should navigate an American president who makes contradictory statements.
