Trump says India has more tariffs than others
Trump's 'golden rule' for imposing reciprocal tariffs
Advocating dialogue and diplomacy since the beginning of the war, India has now backed US President Donald Trump's efforts to engage with Russia directly to end the three-year old conflict. The Indian government will reiterate its position when the European Union (EU) leadership seeks its support on their approach on the Ukraine conflict, it has been learnt.
The EU had openly differed with the US President's efforts to end the war without Ukraine's role and Europe in the negotiations. The EU has expressed strong reservations against direct peace talks between the US and Russia to end the war.
It is also not clear yet if the US will provide any security guarantees to Ukraine as part of the deal on natural resources and reconstruction that could be signed when the Ukrainian President travels to Washington later this week. The EU has urged the US to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine and major European powers are even keen to deploy troops in Ukraine.
The Trump administration has described Russia as a global power and the US President has emphasised that war would not have started if he were the president at that time. The US has ruled out any NATO membership for Ukraine as of now.
