Ahmedabad turning her celebratory mood into a frustrating mess.
The Vadodara District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission recently imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the boutique, La Vichitra, for causing «mental trauma» to the woman. The incident unfolded when the complainant, Deepika Dave of Ahmedabad, visited the boutique in October 2017 to have three matching blouse pieces stitched for saris she had purchased elsewhere. Additionally, she provided two dresses for her daughter's stitching, paying a total of Rs 5,000 for the job.
Upon trying on the garments in November 2017, Dave discovered that all three blouses and her daughter's dresses were improperly stitched. Despite her request for the boutique to rectify the issue at no extra cost, the owner refused.
Left with no recourse, Dave took her grievance to the consumer forum, filing a complaint in August 2018. She sought compensation of Rs 13,200, claiming that due to the poorly stitched blouses, she was unable to wear the corresponding saris to the wedding event.
During the hearing, Dave presented evidence of her payments to the boutique and informed the forum that the owner had refunded Rs 2,000 out of the Rs 5,000 she had paid for the stitching job. However, the boutique owner failed to appear during the proceedings or challenge the complainant's claims.
In its order, the forum emphasised the mental anguish caused to the complainant due to the ill-fitting attire, ruling in her favour. In addition to the Rs 5,000 fine for mental harassment, the boutique was
