Britney Spears' previously unseen audition for the 2004 film 'The Notebook' has surfaced online. The audition features the singer reading lines alongside Ryan Gosling, who was the co-lead in the romantic drama.
Spears lost the role to Rachel McAdams.
The audition tape, dated 2002, was made public by The Daily Mail. It had been kept hidden for many years by casting director Matthew Barry.
In 2021, an eBay listing offered the tape for $1 million.
According to Barry, Spears left a strong impression on the producers. He mentioned that «Britney blew us all away, our jaws were on the floor.» She was a top contender for the role until Rachel McAdams auditioned and secured the part.
Britney Spears has been in the news lately following the release of her long-awaited memoir, 'The Woman In Me.' In her book, she talks about losing the 'Notebook' role, expressing relief that she didn't get it.
Spears mentioned that it might have been challenging to separate herself from the character, which can be unsettling. She hoped to avoid experiencing that occupational hazard again, as living as a blend of reality and fiction can be confusing.
'The Notebook' is a film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 1996 novel, depicting the love story of a young couple in the 1940s while framing it within the context of their later years, where one of them suffers from Alzheimer's.
