Police officers responded to a 911 call in the Dumbo neighbourhood that evening, where they spoke with a 50-year-old man who told them he had been arguing with another man. The victim claimed the altercation escalated when the man, identified as Rhymes, punched him multiple times in the face. The victim was later taken to the hospital with swelling on the left side of his face, police said.
The Brooklyn district attorney's office confirmed that Smith, also known as Busta Rhymes, is due in court on February 3, but declined to provide additional information regarding the case. Rhymes, widely known for his hit songs including “Break Ya Neck,” “Touch It,” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” was also recently honoured with the Global Icon award at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards.
A request for comment was sent to a person believed to be Rhymes’ publicist.
