CBI) Special Crime Branch Kolkata took custody of four alleged accused persons arrested by State Police in connection with the viral video of two women parading naked in Manipur. A shocking video on Manipur violence that went viral on social media platforms shows two women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted before the public.
The video has sparked widespread outrage and strong condemnation against the heinous act. Manipur police had arrested seven people in this connection.
Four alleged accused persons was produced before the court of Special Judge (SC&ST Prevention of Atrocity Act) Thoubal in charge at Chirap court after the completion of police custody period. Defense counsel of alleged accused persons prayed for releasing on bail in connection with the case on the ground that they are innocent Counsel of Central Bureau of Investigation filed an application praying for handing over the police custody of alleged accused to CBI along with prayer for extending the police custody remand for another three days.
Counsel of CBI prayed for police custody remand of alleged accused on the ground to identify the other co accused, who were presently along with the mob, to interrogate the alleged accused persons to find out the chronology of the event which led to the heinous crime, to find out the details of the organization of which they were member as alleged in the FIR Court after hearing the submission of CBI counsel, Special PP of the State, defense counsels and on perusal of the case record observed that the investigation of the case has been transferred to CBI.
