Manipur Violence LIVE: Manipur had been on the boil for the last three months after ethnic clashes broke out between two tribal communities Meities and Kukis, when the Manipur High Court asked the state government to consider adding one of the communities to the list of Scheduled Tribes. The Supreme Court will resume hearing the petitions related to the Manipur violence case from today.
The top court had asked Manipur's Director General of Police (DGP) to be present during this hearing while noting that there was an absolute breakdown of law and order and machinery of state. During the earlier hearing, the CJI DY Chandrachud led bench said that the updates shared with the court indicated that there was “no law from the beginning of May till the end of July" in the northeastern state.
At least 150 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3 when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the majority Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.Catch all the LIVE Updates on Manipur news hereManipur news: At present, BJP has 37 MLAs in the current government.
