Siddaramaiah on Sunday continued his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing the Centre of not releasing grants for 61 centrally sponsored schemes in Karnataka in the past six months since Congress came to power.
These schemes fell across 23 departments, the CM said in a series of posts on social media platform X, while questioning the PM if these welfare schemes had become a burden on the Centre.
Siddaramaiah suspected the Centre was taking revenge on Karnataka for voting in a Congress regime. The BJP national president JP Nadda had threatened voters during the election campaign that the Centre would stop funds if the BJP was not re-elected, the CM claimed and wondered if the Centre was actually implementing this threat.
The delay in release of grants, the CM added, had landed eligible beneficiaries in trouble.
Though Karnataka is the second-highest tax contributor nationwide, the grants under the centrally sponsored schemes have witnessed a consistent decline. From Rs 20,986 crore in 2021-22, it has sharply dropped to Rs 13,005 crore in 2023-24, an alarming reduction of Rs 7,000 crore, Siddaramaiah’s post read.
The CM's queries are part of a social media campaign he has launched titled "#AnswerMadiModi: Why no love for Karnataka?".
«We urge the BJP MPs from our state to introspect and question their central leadership, advocating for Karnataka's rights and aspirations,» a statement from CM said.
He also sought to put the blame on the NDA regime for the cut in the State’s share from the divisible pool of central taxes. The same, the CM said, had come down from 4.72% during the UPA regime to 3.64% during the NDA regime between the two Finance Commissions of 14th and 15th.
