According to a Pinkvilla report, the sports drama-cum-biopic will be releasing rent-free on the streaming portal on August 9.
Directed by Kabir Khan (best known for modern classics such as ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, etc), ‘Chandu Champion’ is a tale of perseverance against all odds.
The biopic is a loose adaptation of the life and times of India’s first Paralympic gold medallist, Murlikant Petkar.
Starring Karthik Aaryan, ‘Chandu Champion’ explores various phases of Petkar’s life, from his youth when he runs away from home and joins the Indian Army Corps of EME, and suffers a grievous injury that renders him paraplegic in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965, to bagging a Gold Medal in the 1972 Summer Paralympics to his quest to receive a Padma Shri and a formal acknowledgment from the government of his achievements after years of negligence.
The movie hit the theatres on June 14 and opened to rave reviews from the critics. Aaryan in particular was inundated with praises for a tour-de-force performance as a man who was let down by life but refused to give up. His marked physical transformation was also noted and praised.
However, the movie failed to be a box-office success. Made on a budget of Rs 70-140
