Columbia University: All about Donald Trump administration's decision to cancel $400M in grants, contracts
Donald Trump administration announced on Friday that it was cutting down $400 million in funding for Columbia University due to its continued inaction to squelch antisemitism on campus.
Cancelling grants and contracts of the Ivy League school, the US Departments of Justice, Health, Education and General Services Administration (GSA) stated in an official release that these «represent the first round of action and additional cancellations are expected to follow.»
At present, Columbia University holds over $5 billion in federal grant commitments.
Why does it matter?
The notice comes days after the federal agencies said they were looking into orders to halt work on $51 million in contracts with the New York City-based institution, besides reviewing the university's eligibility for more than $5 billion in federal grants, the Associated Press reported.
The university had earlier established a new disciplinary committee and even ramped up investigations against those students who are critical of Israel.
