Moreh witnessing fierce gun battle in the last two days between the militants and security forces, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said that there are chances of fresh attacks and mass combing operations are underway in and around Moreh to nab the armed men.
Lieutenant General HS Sahi GOC Spear Corps carried out a comprehensive review of operational readiness and its role in Manipur.
Biren said that the unified command and combined teams of security forces comprising Assam Rifles, BSF and state police commandos are jointly taking on the militants.
“Militants have attacked state police and central forces. It is our primary duty to protect the people and land of the state. The unified command, Assam Rifles, BSF and state forces are countering the attack of the militants.”
He added, “On Monday around 6.30 pm there was firing from the hill tops.
It was retailed by joint forces. Till now it is peaceful however there are chances of new attacks. Alert is sounded, combing operation is on, and mass combing operation is under way.”
Security advisor to the Manipur government, Kuldiep Singh said, “In Moreh a lot of village volunteers and militants are there.
Trying to evict the commandos from there. Time and again they are told that state forces cannot be asked to evict from any place. State forces will act wherever in the state of Manipur, where the Manipur government sends them.”
On involvement of militants from Myanmar, he said, “We do not have any information, intelligence suggests militants/ miscreants from nearby areas from Churachandpur, Chandel, Tengnoupal have assembled there.
