Cyber Security: Bengaluru Police register FIR after obscene images mar HC proceedings
Bengaluru Police have registered an FIR after obscene images interrupted the live streaming of the Karnataka High Court proceedings at a court hall on Monday.
The CEN Police (cyber, economic & narcotic offences) registered the FIR under sections 67 & 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 on a complaint from the High Court administration.
While Section 67 deals with punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form, Section 67A prescribes punishment for publishing or transmitting material containing sexually explicit acts, etc.
in electronic form.
Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale had, on Tuesday, announced they were stopping video-conferencing and live-streaming of court proceedings at the High Court in Bengaluru and at Dharwad and Kalaburagi benches citing cyber security concerns.
The CJ attributed the decision to suspend live-streaming and video conferencing as a temporary measure caused by an unfortunate incident of mischief.
«Unfortunately, some mischief is being played, there may be something at the level of technology or some people… This is something unfortunate, the situation is an unprecedented one.
Otherwise, Karnataka High Court was always in favour of using technology for the public at large,» Justice Varale said while urging people not to rush to the court registry or technology team with a set of complaints as to why video conferencing was not being allowed. The suspension was aimed at protecting the system as well as the institution.
Technology was being misused, he remarked.
