New Delhi: Several parts of the national capital are likely to see moderate to heavy showers in the next couple of hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. “Intense cloud patch entering into Northwest Delhi likely to cause moderate to heavy spell over Northwest, Central and Southwest Delhi during next 1-2 hours," the weather office said.
Light or moderate widespread rainfall is seen over Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh during the next five days and over east Uttar Pradesh till Thursday; Punjab, and Haryana from Thursday to Saturday; east Rajasthan from Wednesday to Saturday and west Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday. Rainfall was 16% deficit in northwest regions on Monday and 37% above normal since 1 June.
The rainfall in the country during the same period remains 9% deficient. IMD expects rains in July, which account for nearly 40% of total monsoon precipitation, to be around 100% of the long period average.
Intense spell of rainfall is also likely to continue over south peninsular India and north Maharashtra till Thursday and over Gujarat from Thursday to Saturday as a cyclonic circulation lies over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast in lower and middle tropospheric levels, IMD said. Another cyclonic circulation that lies over south Gujarat and neighbourhood in middle tropospheric levels may cause extremely heavy falls over Konkan, Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on Wednesday and Thursday and over Gujarat on Saturday.
The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level lies near its normal position while its eastern end lies to the south of its normal position. This weather condition is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall over north Kerala,
