Type 2 diabetes is on the rise across the world led by lifestyle changes, researchers have recently noted that having a fruit regularly leads to decreased chances of diabetes in women. Regular consumption of Avocado leads to lesser chances of this metabolic disorder. This was the conclusion based on studies conducted on some Mexican women, as per a report on Fox.
Upon analysis of the data from the Mexican National Survey of Health and Nutrition for the years 2012, 2016 and 2018, the findings were unique. 25,640 participants were surveyed of whom 59% were women and 60% of them had abdominal fat which is often attributed as a factor leading to insulin resistance and on set of diabetes.
In this, approximately 45% of the participants revealed their dietary practices including consuming avocado every day. Women consumed 29.8 grams on average and men consumed 34.7 grams on average.
Among women, those who consumed this fruit were found to be 20% less susceptible to diabetes after adjusting for various factors such as body weight, physical activity etc. This diabetes reducing effect was not seen in men. This research assumes significances as Hispanic community is more prone to diabetes than Americans.
Many nutritionists pointed out that this fruit is rich in Omega 3 fats, fiber, magnesium, potassium and Vitamins C, E and K. It is low on Carbohydrates which is high on glycemic index.
