The hacking prowess seems to have taken a massive surge and the suspicion falls upon Xi Jinping's China government which has a long history of cyber-hacking Western government officials, mostly in the United States and United Kingdom.
According to older reports, a US official by the name of Gina Raimondo was also a victim of a severe Chinese cyber invasion in 2023. A Chinese hacking group that goes by the name of Storm-0558 has been consistently attacking US and UK government servers and breaching the accounts of its officials. Among them was Raimondo who served as America's ambassador to China, thus making the suspicions pretty direct, according to The Sun's report.
According to The Sun, this Chinese hacking gang breached the official systems using a Microsoft account. However, after a significant amount of time, it is still not ascertained how this hack happened in the first place. Experts are still working on it to understand how this entire process took place.
According to the same Sun report, the 2023 cyberattack saw hackers steal almost 60,000 emails from the State Department itself. How much more data was stolen is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, there are multiple theories on how these breaches took place across time, one of them being that the hackers have developed a theoretical quantum computing capability to breach into public-key cryptography.
