Diego Maradona's medical team on trial for homicide, faces 25 years in jail
The trial for homicide will be conducted at a three-judge court in San Isidro, near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires from March 11, 2025, and is likely to continue for several months.
Even though Maradona had been suffering from a host of health related issues for many years, the prosecution team has alleged that his death was the result of medical negligence on the part of the team of doctors and nurses treating him.
An iconic player who mesmerised the football world with his exceptional talent, Maradona died aged 60 on November 25, 2020, following a cardiac arrest linked to acute pulmonary edema while undergoing treatment in a private residence in Tigre, Buenos Aires. Just a few days ago Maradona had undergone an operation for the removal of a blood clot in his brain.
