DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday condemned Indian crowd's behaviour for booing and chanting 'Jai Shree Ram' as players from the Pakistan team got out in the match.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the DMK leader and son of Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin said, “India is renowned for its sportsmanship and hospitality.
However the treatment meted out to Pakistan players at Narendra Modi stadium is unacceptable and a new low. Sports should be a unifying force between countries, fostering true brotherhood.
Using it as a tool to spread hatred is unacceptable.”
In support of the statement of Udhayanidhi Stalin, several cricket fans from Tamil Nadu have called forshowering love and respect to the Pakistan cricket team who are playing in Chepauk in the next ten days.
According to IANS, a cricket fan named Lakshmi, in a social media post, expressed, «Pakistan is playing two matches in Chepauk in the next 10 days, and we should compensate for what Babar Azam and his team endured at Ahmedabad with love and care. Sports are meant to promote universal brotherhood, and some individuals are misusing it as a platform for spreading hatred, which is unacceptable.»
Despite the unsavory incidents during the match in Ahmedabad, where India won by seven wickets in a one-sided contest, there were reports of fans booing Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, and singing 'Vande Mataram.' Additionally, Babar Azam and Rohit Sharma faced a chorus of disapproval from the crowd when they went out for the toss.
In a contrasting gesture of goodwill, India's star batsman, Virat Kohli, exhibited a heartening moment by gifting his signed Indian jersey to Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, during the event.
