In a report by TOI, Dr Tim Rittman, a neurology consultant, highlighted lesser-known early signs of dementia. Some of these signs may be subtle and can only be noticed by close family members. One such indicator may appear while watching TV.
What Are the Early Signs of Dementia?
1. Difficulty Following a TV Show
One of the early symptoms of dementia could be struggling to follow the storyline of a TV programme. If someone who used to enjoy watching TV suddenly finds it hard to focus, loses track of the plot, or forgets what happened earlier in the show, it could be a sign of cognitive decline.
2. Forgetting Places or Events
Dr Rittman points out that early forgetfulness often involves forgetting places or events from the past. This may show up as asking the same question repeatedly or struggling to recall the names of objects in the house.
3. Changes in Awareness
A person with early dementia may experience changes in perception and awareness. Surprisingly, they may not even realise that their thinking and memory are being affected, while their family members notice these changes more clearly.
