NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer loses contact after deployment: What happened?
NASA's Lunar Trailblazer, which launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on February 26, experienced a loss of communication with ground control, the US space agency confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Mission operators at Caltech’s IPAC in Pasadena, California, initially established contact with the satellite following its successful deployment in space, NASA stated in an official release. However, telemetry data later indicated intermittent power system issues, the agency added.
Lunar Trailblazer turned on its transmitter: NASA
According to NASA, the mission operations team lost communication with the lunar probe on Thursday morning at around 04:30 am (PST).
The space agency reported that the Lunar Trailblazer “turned on” its transmitter several hours after losing contact. In its statement, NASA said mission operators were continuing to work with ground stations to restore telemetry and command functions in an effort to further investigate the power issues and develop potential solutions.
