The late Dame Maggie Smith, who portrayed Lady Violet until her passing last September, will be sorely missed in Downton Abbey 3.During Downton Abbey‘s original run from 2010 to 2015, Smith’s work as Violet Crawley (aka the Dowager Countess) earned her three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
Fans are intrigued to see how the series will adapt without the Dowager's biting humor, and it appears the third film will act as a grand send-off. In a recent chat with Jason King on Heart Breakfast while promoting Paddington in Peru, Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Grantham, confirmed this.
