Elton John disclosed that he has completely lost his sight during a heartfelt address at a charity gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. Speaking to an audience that included celebrities such as Anna Wintour and Lily Collins at London’s Dominion Theatre, the 77-year-old music icon said, «As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it.»
The charity event supported the Elton John AIDS Foundation, a cause John has championed for decades. The gala marked another chapter in the artist's illustrious career, even as he faces health challenges.
Sir Elton John’s announcement follows months of deteriorating vision. In September, he revealed that a severe eye infection over the summer had left him with «limited vision in one eye.» By November, his condition had worsened. He told People: «It kind of floored me, and I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't watch anything.»
John also shared how his left eye, already weakened, has added to the difficulty of managing everyday tasks, including reading lyrics and watching performances. Despite these challenges, the Rocket Man singer reassured fans: «I am undergoing treatment, but it will require time and patience.»
“I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it,” he said on stage at the charity event for the Elton John AIDS Foundation held at The Dominion Theatre in London on Sunday evening
