Manu Tuilagi will be absent from the initial stages of the Six Nations as a result of a groin injury sustained during Sale's Premiership triumph over Saracens last week.
During the second half of the match, Tuilagi had to exit prematurely, and subsequent assessments have indicated a six-week rehabilitation period, ruling out the necessity for surgery.
The 32-year-old, a consistent presence in England's midfield during the recent World Cup in France, is set to miss at least the opening clash against Italy on February 3.
Sale's director of rugby, Alex Sanderson, shared, «Manu has pulled his groin, and we anticipate his return during the Six Nations, but not for the initial week.»
Sanderson further explained, «I spoke to him, and he's determined to get back on the field. If he's fit to play, it's contingent on England's selection. He was in consideration previously, and he has expressed his desire to continue playing international rugby.»
Although the recommended recovery time is six weeks, Tuilagi is optimistic and targeting a return in four weeks. The experienced player, who had recently recovered from a broken hand post the World Cup, has dealt with a persistent groin issue earlier in his career and, more recently, has faced challenges due to damage to both hamstrings.
In another setback for Sale, prop Bevan Rodd will be sidelined for the entire Six Nations following toe surgery.
