EU Suspends Visa-Free Travel for Georgian Diplomats Amid Rising Political Tensions
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, highlighted that the situation in Georgia is not moving in the right direction for its citizens. The EU emphasized its continued support for the people of Georgia by redirecting financial aid from government authorities to civil society and independent media.

During the meeting, EU officials expressed concerns over recent developments in Georgia that impact its citizens and the country's aspirations to join the EU.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze strongly criticized the suspension, calling it an «anti-Georgian step.» The decision coincides with ongoing mass protests in Georgia, now in their 19th day, sparked by the government’s announcement to suspend EU membership talks until 2028.
