Four assembly polls: BJP holds sway in North, Congress preferred in South

assembly polls indicate that BJP with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its face continues to hold its sway in Hindi heartland, but when it comes to the South, Congress is favored by electors as an alternative to the regional players.

Another trend which becomes visible from these assembly results is that BJP has a better strike rate in retaining the government as compared to Congress.

BJP appeared to have succeeded in retaining its government in Madhya Pradesh, while Congress failed in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Though BJP recently failed to retain government in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, if one looks at macro picture across the country, the saffron party has a better record in tackling anti-incumbency than the grand old party.
