Gorakhpur has emerged as one of the key constituencies of Uttar Pradesh over the many Lok Sabha conducted in the country. The constituency derives its name from the Sanskrit word, Gorakshapuram which means abode of Gorakhnath.
Gorakhpur has been known to have been a stronghold of BJP. The electoral battleground sees tough competition between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party. The particular constituency holds importance for the current state Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, who was winning for five years but later decided to give up the position to be a part of the state legislative.

Initial speculations suggest that the country will undergo polling for 18th Lok Sabha in April and May. Keeping that in mind, it can be expected that ECI will announce the dates for the polls in coming days of March.

Till now, BJP has released its first list consisting of 195 leaders including major names such as Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh among others. In the case of Gorakhpur, BJP has decided to field actor Ravi Kishan Shukla, popularly known as Ravi Kishan who was able to win the constituency back in 2019.
Other parties are yet to announce their candidates for this constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
