Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Thursday. «The necessary policy framework is already in place to create a vibrant component ecosystem. And if there is any need for the government to intervene and create more PLI type of schemes, we will do so,» he said while addressing the media ahead of the 'Semicon India 2023' event in Gandhinagar.
The event will showcase India's semiconductor capabilities and chip design innovation on July 28 and will boast participation of companies like Foxconn, Micron, AMD, IBM, Marvell, Vedanta, LAM Research, NXP Semiconductors, STMicroelectronics and more. The second edition of the conference will be inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The minister said that the deepening and broadening of the electronics ecosystem is one of the government's stated goals and that semiconductors are a very important part of this deepening strategy.
«We believe as our electronics products reach global scales — which we are in smartphone category — It will also be in the server and IT category and the wearables and hearables category,» he said. Chandrasekhar also spoke about the mushrooming of startups in semiconductor design space. He said India is a 'rising force' in the RISC-V programme.
The Digital India RISC-V Microprocessor (DIR-V) Program was launched last year with the aim to enable creation of microprocessors for the future in India, for the world and achieve industry-grade silicon and Design wins by December 2023. «We are charging forward today with almost 30 startups. Five startups have good been given direct government financial support and 25 more are being evaluated,» he said.
