Sean Gunn has slammed Bob Iger, Disney's chief executive officer (CEO), for his remarks on the ongoing strikes in the US by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Sean Gunn, seen in Guardians of the Galaxy and the web series Gilmore Girls, has also lashed out at Netflix over the minimal residuals received by the streaming app. Sean is the brother of Guardians of the Galaxy director and DC Film co-CEO James Gunn.
Just before the SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA on the picket lines on Thursday, July 14, 2023, Bob Iger gave an interview to CNBC's Squawk Box. The Disney CEO believed that the actors’ union strike would have a «very, very damaging effect on the whole business» and «affect the economy of different regions». «It’s a shame, it is really a shame,» he added.
This comment has not gone down well with Sean Gunn, who reacted to Iger's remarks in a TikTok video from the picket lines, shared by the Associated Press. Gunn said, «I think when Bob Iger talks about, ‘What a shame it is,’ he needs to remember that in the 1980s, CEOs like him made 30 times more than what the lowest worker was making. Now, Bob Iger makes 400 times what his lowest worker is, and I think that’s a f****** shame, Bob.» «Maybe you should take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, ‘Why is that?’ and not only why is that, is it okay? Is it morally okay? Is it ethically okay that you make much more than your lowest worker?» questioned Gunn.
